Fiber laser refers to the use of rare earth element glass fiber as a gain medium of the laser, fiber laser can be developed on the basis of fiber amplifier: under the action of pump light, the fiber is easy to form a high power density, resulting in the laser energy level of the laser working substance "particle number reversal", when appropriately added to the positive feedback loop (constituting a resonant cavity) can form a laser oscillation output.

Fiber laser applications vary with different output power. According to the different output power of the laser, the fiber laser can be divided into: 1) low-power fiber laser: output power < 100W, mainly used in laser marking, drilling, precision processing and metal engraving, etc.; 2) medium power fiber laser: output power ≤ 1.5kW, mainly used in welding and cutting of metal materials, metal surface refurbishment treatment; 3) high-power fiber laser: output power > 1.5kW, mainly used for cutting of thick metal plates, three-dimensional processing of special plates, etc.
